The president announced Jackson as his nominee at the end of February, upholding his promise to select a Black woman for the role. If Jackson is confirmed, she would be the first Black woman ever to sit on the Supreme Court in its 233-year history.

The intensive hearings will be conducted by the Senate Judiciary Committee, with opening statements from senators and Jackson starting this morning. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Judge Jackson will be questioned by the committee, which is made up of 11 Democrats and 11 Republicans. The final day of the hearings will involve questions from senators about the American Bar Association, among other things, according to ABC News.

There is a high likelihood that Jackson will be confirmed since every Democrat’s vote alone could solidify her—even if all the Republican senators voted against her, explained the New York Times.
